One-of-a-kind Christmas jumpers sewn from preloved blankets by Sewn Not Thrown, from £35

Unique Christmas Jumpers Made from Preloved Blankets

For a Christmas jumper nobody else will be wearing, Sewn Not Thrown makes each one by hand from a rescued blanket, so every piece exists exactly once. The ready-made jumpers cost £35 to £45 and a commission costs £55. They are made in the UK by one woman, Meg Davis, from preloved fabric she finds mostly in charity shops.

In short

  • What: one-of-a-kind jumpers, shrugs and cropped tops cut from preloved blankets. Every one is unisex.
  • Price: £35 for a cropped jumper, £40 for a Cosy Shrug, £45 for a three-quarter jumper. A made-to-order commission is £55.
  • Christmas pieces at the time of writing: a snowman three-quarter jumper (Medium, £45), a Gingerbread cropped jumper (Large, £35) and a Candy Canes Cosy Shrug (Large, £40).
  • Sizes: the release gives XS to XXL. Each ready-made piece comes in one size only, so a commission is the way to get your size.
  • Where: sewnnotthrown.co.uk and Green Jam Creatives in Birkenhead. UK delivery only.

Why a blanket makes a better Christmas jumper

Most Christmas jumpers get one outing a year and spend the rest of it in a drawer. Sewn Not Thrown starts from the other end. Meg Davis buys blankets that people have given away, mostly from UK charity shops, and cuts each one into a single jumper. The pattern on the blanket becomes the pattern on the jumper, so no two ever match.

The Christmas jumper in her press release shows how this works. It has a grey teddy-textured body and a red yoke printed with snowmen, and a stand-up collar that fastens at the front. It’s a relaxed, roomy shape rather than a tight knit. You can have it at the longer length, or with an adjustable drawcord, which brings it up to about the waist. Both options are free. It measures 18 inches across the shoulders and 25 inches long, and only one exists.

“Sustainable fashion should be comfortable, creative, and accessible.”

That line from the brand’s own description of itself is fair. None of this is couture. These are cosy, slightly eccentric clothes made to be worn a lot.

The Christmas pieces, and what else is on the rails

Every piece is a one-off, so the list changes as things sell. These were the festive pieces on 26 September 2026:

Piece Style Size Price
Christmas three-quarter jumper (snowmen) Stand-up collar, oversized fit Medium £45
Christmas Gingerbread Cropped jumper Large £35
Christmas Candy Canes Cosy Shrug (cropped) Large £40
Design Your Own Commission, cropped or standard length Your size £55

The rest of the shop is not Christmassy, and some of it makes a better present for exactly that reason. It includes tartans, patchwork, dinosaurs, dogs and ducks. There are also two jumpers called “Nothing Wasted”. Batwing jumpers start at £35 and oversized jumpers are £40.

Commissions: a jumper made to order

If the ready-made pieces are the wrong size, or you’d like something more personal, a commission is the answer. You pay £55 for a slot and choose cropped or standard length. Then you send Meg a link to a blanket you’ve found, or describe the colours, theme or pattern you’re after, and she sources a preloved blanket to match. She suggests florals, tartans, vintage prints or neutral tones. She confirms the details by email or direct message after you order.

Speaking to the Sussex Express in 2025, she said she also makes clothes to order when a customer has fabric of their own to upcycle. So if there’s a family blanket in the airing cupboard, ask her before you order. Old bedding can carry a lot of memories. She told the paper about a customer who bought one of her hoodies and found it was made from a duvet set she’d had as a child. Commissions take longer than ready-made pieces, so get in touch well before December.

Where to buy, and how to pay less

  • Online: sewnnotthrown.co.uk. The Christmas three-quarter jumper sits with the other three-quarter jumpers.
  • In person: Green Jam Creatives, 50 Hamilton Street, Birkenhead CH41 5AE. It’s a shop and creative space selling work by more than 50 independent artists and makers. Check its social pages for opening times.
  • First-order discount: sign up to the mailing list on the website and you get 20% off your first piece.
  • Loyalty points: you earn one point per £1 spent, and 10 points take £1 off a later order.
  • Delivery and returns: the shop only sends to UK addresses. Ready-made pieces can be returned or exchanged within 14 days if they’re in a sellable condition. Custom pieces may have different terms.

If you’re watching the pennies, the £35 cropped jumpers are the cheapest way in. And the least expensive Christmas jumper is always the one you already own. Save the Children, which runs Christmas Jumper Day, asks people not to buy new and to look for a second-hand jumper instead.

Who it’s for

It suits the teenager who wouldn’t be seen in a mass-produced reindeer, and the friend who already owns too many cashmere crew-necks. It’s a good fit for anyone whose Christmas list says “nothing new, please”. Because every piece is unisex and cut roomy, size is easier to judge than with a fitted knit. Still, check the shoulder measurement on the listing against a jumper they already wear.

Upcycled Christmas jumpers: your questions answered

Where can I buy an upcycled Christmas jumper in the UK?

Sewn Not Thrown sells one-of-a-kind jumpers made from preloved blankets on its website, sewnnotthrown.co.uk, and through Green Jam Creatives in Birkenhead. Every piece is handmade in the UK and there is only one of each.

How much is a Sewn Not Thrown jumper?

Cropped jumpers are £35, Cosy Shrugs are £40 and three-quarter jumpers are £45. A made-to-order commission costs £55. These were the prices on the website on 26 September 2026.

Can I have a jumper made from a blanket I choose?

Yes. A £55 commission lets you send a link to a blanket you’ve found or describe the colours and pattern you want, and Meg Davis sources a preloved blanket to match. She has also said she makes clothes to order from a customer’s own fabric, so ask about that before you order.

What sizes do the jumpers come in?

Sewn Not Thrown makes sizes XS to XXL, and every piece is unisex. Each ready-made piece exists in one size only, so if yours isn’t in stock, a commission is the way to get it.

When is Christmas Jumper Day 2026?

Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day is on Thursday 10 December 2026. The charity encourages people to wear a jumper they already own or buy one second-hand rather than new.

Does Sewn Not Thrown deliver outside the UK?

No. The shop sends to UK addresses only. It says this is because of the product-safety regulations that came in in December 2024.
