What do you get a Doctor Who fan for Christmas?

This carton was circulating on Twitter earlier this week. It made me smile and also made me think about what would you give a Doctor Who fans, young and old for Christmas this year?

Doctor Who Christmas Gift Ideas

If you Click Here you’ll find a section on Amazon giving literally hundreds of Doctor Who related gift ideas.  However to save you looking through all of those here are a few of my favourite ideas.

It’s worth keeping in mind that 2014 saw the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, so quality items to commemorate 50 years are likely to become collectors items in years to come.

The Official Doctor Who Annual 2015

This is the first Doctor Who Christmas Annual to feature the  Twelfth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. I’m sure it will keep lots of little Doctor Who fans quiet for a few hours over the Christmas holidays.

The Day of the Doctor was the 50th Anniversary Special featuring Matt Smith, David Tennant and Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper,  John Hurt and with a surprise cameo appearances of the 13th Doctor & Tom Baker at the end which most fans thought was a stroke of genius

This will be really popular with younger fans – (luckily they don’t do it in a kingsize for the older fans!)

Doctor Who 12-inch 50th Anniversary Collector Edition DalekI think the Doctor Who 12-inch 50th Anniversary Collector Edition Dalek could really become a collectors item in years to come. Any Doctor Who fan would be really please to have this in their collection.

Christmas 2010 Doctor Who Special

In recent years I’ve really enjoyed the Christmas Doctor Who specials.  As part of tonights BBC Children in Need Appeal they showed us a sneak peak, teaser trail for this years Christmas special… and it look excellent, everything you could hope for in a Christmas special.

The episode seems likely to be called “The Christmas Time Lord”.   The trailer starts with Doctor Who  coming down a chimney, Michael Gambon playing a Scrooge like character supported by Amy, Rory and Katherine Jenkins.   There’s lots of snow, Dickensian characters, an Amy on the bridge of what looks like a Star Ship.

I also understand that for the first time this year Doctor Who fans in the USA will be able to enjoy the Christmas special on Christmas Day, so I’m sure the whole Internet will be awash with reviews and comments on Boxing Day.

Well, only 35 days to go until we get to sit down and enjoy this new episode and I can’t wait.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet you can find it here.

First Christmas 2010 Advert Spotted

With 175 days until Christmas 2010 I’ve just finished watching the last in the current run of Doctor Who on BBC Three.  There it was, right at the end a great big plug for Doctor Who this Christmas.  How ironic that the first advert for this Christmas was spotted on the BBC of all places.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this over the coming weeks.  I firmly believe that there should be a law against advertising Christmas events and products before Halloween has been and gone and Firework night is just around the corner.  That said I can’t wait to see the next episode of Doctor Who at Christmas.
