I hope you are enjoying Bank Holiday Monday if you are in the UK. For me it essentially marks the end of Summer, it starts to get dark earlier and it’s a little cooler in the evening and the children are getting ready to go back to school. It’s also the last Bank Holiday between now and Christmas, so from now on the preparations pick up a pace. There are only 117 days or 17 weekends between now and Christmas and they will disappear before we know it. The first major milestone is only a few weeks away, the last posting date for international surface mail will be end of September. If you need to send large bulky Christmas presents internationally via surface mail then you need to be shopping for them now and getting them in the post in plenty of time.
As it’s a typical Bank Holiday weekend, I’m about to get out in the garden to harvest my lavender before it rains.
I should really have harvested the lavender a few weeks ago while there were more full flowers on the plants but at the time there were so many bees around the lavender I didn’t have the heart to steal their nectar dinner. This weekend as I can leave the flowers in the conservatory for a few days to dry. In the weekends that lead up to Christmas I’ll be making little lavender pillows and pouches to give to friends as Christmas presents and I’ll be keeping a few for myself. The smell of lavender coming from the little pouches as I open my draws always takes me back to the long warm summer evenings with the scent of lavender and rosemary in the air, a cool crisp glass of wine and the lovely times we enjoyed during the summer.
Have a nice Bank Holiday weekend, and let’s get planning for a great Christmas.
