Christmas fairs and fayres at stately homes, castles, National Trust houses, cathedrals, gardens and showgrounds — with 2026 dates, times, prices and whether you need to book.
Whether you call it a Christmas fair or a Christmas fayre, it is a different outing from a town Christmas market: it happens at a particular place, from a stately home’s courtyard or a cathedral nave to a showground hall or a racecourse stand, and there is often a ticket, a timed slot or a car park to book. Chatsworth Christmas Market 2026
Sat 7 Nov – Sun 13 Dec 2026
More than 100 themed stalls for five weeks, many of them Derbyshire and Peak District businesses. The market is free to enter, but every visit must be booked in advance, Friends and pass holders included, and parking is charged. A Christmas at Chatsworth house ticket includes the market.
Blenheim Palace Christmas Market 2026
Fri 13 Nov – Sun 20 Dec 2026
Wooden chalets in the Great Court, running alongside the palace’s Illuminated Trail. Blenheim has not yet said whether a market-only visit needs a palace or park ticket; parking must be pre-booked, at extra cost.
Sandringham Christmas Fair 2026
Fri 13 – Sun 15 Nov 2026
The royal estate’s three-day craft, food and gift fair, with more than 250 stalls, fine food halls, a cookery theatre and a land train. Adults £16, children £7; family tickets are sold in advance only. Parking is free and dogs on leads are welcome.
Harewood Christmas Market 2026
Fri 6 – Sun 8 Nov and Fri 27 – Sun 29 Nov 2026
Two weekends of independent makers curated with Little Bird Made, with timed entry. The market ticket does not include the house, which has its own Christmas programme; bring cash.
Burghley Christmas Fair 2026
Thu 26 – Sun 29 Nov 2026
More than 200 stalls across the courtyards and grounds, a Victorian carousel and late opening until 7.30pm on the Friday and Saturday. Tickets are sold online only; there are no gate sales.
Castle Howard at Christmas 2026
No Christmas market this year
Castle Howard is not holding a Christmas market in 2026. The house is dressed for “A Dickens of a Christmas” from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, and the only stall event of the season is a one-day Artist and Maker Fair at the Yorkshire Arboretum on Saturday 28 November. Christmas fairs 2026: your questions
What is the difference between a Christmas fair and a Christmas market?
In this guide a Christmas fair is held at a particular place — a stately home, castle, cathedral, garden, showground or racecourse — with stallholders chosen by the organiser, and often a ticket. A Christmas market is a town- or city-centre event in the streets and squares, usually free. The names overlap, so we sort by where the event happens. Town and city markets are in our UK Christmas markets directory.
Is a Christmas fayre the same as a Christmas fair?
Yes. ’Fayre’ is an old spelling of ’fair’ that many organisers still use for its period charm — Hampton Court Palace’s Festive Fayre and the Christmas Craft Fayre at Flatford are two in this directory. Search either spelling in the box above.
When do Christmas fairs start in 2026?
The first fair in this directory opens in mid-October — Cheltenham Christmas Gift & Fashion Fair starts on 15 October 2026. The busiest weekends are those starting Saturday 21 November, 28 November, 5 December and 12 December, and the weekend of 28 November has the most fairs open.
Do I need to book a Christmas fair in advance?
Often, yes. Chatsworth’s market is free but every visit must be booked, Burghley and the NEC’s Festive Gift Fair sell no tickets on the gate, and several others use timed entry slots. Where the organiser has said, each listing shows whether you can pay on the door.
Are National Trust Christmas fairs free?
Many are. Of the 25 National Trust Christmas fairs and markets we list for 2026, 10 are free events and at 14 the fair is free but normal admission applies, so members go free and others pay to enter the property. Each listing says which applies.
What is a Christmas tree festival?
A Christmas tree festival fills a church, cathedral or historic building with trees decorated by local schools, charities, clubs and businesses, usually from late November, and some stay up until early January. 6 of the 14 we list are free or by donation; others, such as York Minster’s, are included with a sightseeing ticket. Highlights for 2026 include York Minster, Worcester Cathedral, Beverley Minster and Blackburn Cathedral.
Which cathedrals hold Christmas fairs?
We list 16 cathedral and abbey fairs for 2026, among them Ely Cathedral’s Christmas Gift & Food Fair (about 160 exhibitors inside the cathedral and in an outdoor festive village), Winchester Cathedral’s month-long Christmas market, Guildford, Lincoln, Ripon, Southwell Minster and Romsey Abbey. Some are ticketed, so check each listing.
Is there a Christmas market at Castle Howard in 2026?
No. Castle Howard is not holding a Christmas market in 2026. The house is dressed for ’A Dickens of a Christmas’ from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, and there is a one-day Artist and Maker Fair at the Yorkshire Arboretum on the Castle Howard estate on Saturday 28 November 2026.
