Have you ever had a Christmas cookery disaster?

Posted by admin on Aug 17, 2011 in News and Comment

If you follow the Christmas Planning advice on our blog I’m sure this won’t apply to you but even the best planned Christmas can go wrong. For example one year I fell over quite badly on ice and couldn’t move on Christmas Day so I had to leave my husband to cook Christmas lunch for our dozen or so guest. Luckily for me he is an amazing cook but it could so easily have been a disaster.

With this in mind I was interested to hear that freshone.tv, the production company founded by Jamie Oliver are working on a Christmas show for channel 4. The programme will feature home video footage of peoples Christmas cookery disasters. If you’ve ever had a Christmas cookery disaster they want to hear all about it… whether you fought for hours to fit the oversized turkey into your oven on Christmas day, or poisoned your in-laws because of an undercooked turkey, perhaps you’re one of the four million households whose cooker broke down at that crucial moment – Whatever the mishap they want to hear all about it … From the funny to the tragic, and the stressful to the very familiar. They want to see your home footage and will pay a fee for any footage they decide to include in their programme. For more information Email: christmas2011@freshone.tv or phone 020 3375 5099.

Christmas comes early to London

Posted by admin on Aug 1, 2011 in News and Comment

I’ve had a couple of days off and come back to find that both Harrods and Selfridges opened their Christmas departments on July 28th this year. This is at least a week earlier than last year and before many of us have even had our Summer holiday. To coincide with the opening of the Christmas Department Harrods have released a YouTube video which no doubt they hope will go viral:

Now as regular readers will know I really do not approve of shops selling Christmas goods before November, but it does make some sense in London. These are not your normal city centre stores, much of their trade comes from people who are visiting London and who want to pick up something to give as a special gift at Christmas.

If you’ve visited either of these stores what did you think of them? What did you buy? I’d love to hear from you and know what you thought of them.

Christmas jokes

Posted by admin on Jul 21, 2011 in Christmas Jokes

I’m going to start a page of Christmas related jokes, these will all be good clean jokes which are suitable for Children. If you have any clever / funny Christmas jokes please post a comment or send me an email.

Anyway to kick this off here is an Christmas joke which is firmly in the clever category….

Why do computer programmers always mixup Christmas and Halloween? Because DEC 25 = OCT 31.

That will certainly make your IT friends stop do the maths in their heads, say they don’t believe it and then laugh.

Anyway if you have any decent, family friendly Christmas jokes please get in touch.

Christmas in July

Posted by admin on Jul 21, 2011 in News and Comment

I just noticed that Christmas is trending on Twitter tonight. There seem to be lots of Christmas in July events happening around the world. If you’ve never heard of this I think you will start to hear a lot more in years to come. Basically the idea is that if you live in the Northern hemisphere you can experience what it must be like to celebrate Christmas in Australia in the height of our summer while those south of the equator get to see what it is like to celebrate Christmas when it is cold.

I can’t say I really approve but it depends in what spirit people celebrate. I fear this will get bigger over the coming years because there are not really any card sending or gift giving events in July and August and lots of businesses are looking for ways to fill this gap.

If you are celebrating Christmas in July or running an event or promotion please get in touch and let me know what you are doing.

Do you know someone with a birthday at Christmas?

Posted by admin on Jul 9, 2011 in News and Comment

Last year I wrote a blog which talked about how to deal with people who celebrate their birthday at Christmas.  If your birthday is at Christmas then it often just gets mixed up and lost with the Christmas celebrations and people can end up feeling a little hard-done-by.  The solution is somewhat like the queen, to have two birthdays.  So if you know someone special who has their birthday at Christmas why not organise a nice surprise ‘official birthday party’ for them during late July or August.  While the weather is nice it’s a great time to invite everyone and enjoy a summer barbecue.
