Mincemeat

Happy New Year.

Just a quick blog post to share a tip with you…. Mincemeat is best aged for about 12 months in the jar before it is used.  The flavours become deeper, warmer and less acidic than freshly made mincemeat.  I’m not suggesting that anyone has the time or energy to make their own mincemeat in January but it’s worth thinking about how much you’ve just used over the Christmas period and then buy what you need for next Christmas.  Check the use by dates carefully in case the store has old stock, but in general you should expect to see deals on mincemeat in the supermarkets over the next few weeks.  Just buy it now and store it at the back of your cupboard until December.
